Our Service
Posted by admin in A HAIRDRESSING SERVICE FOR MEN AND BOYS on April 19, 2009
“THE BARBER TOO,” 189 HYNDLAND ROAD, GLASGOW, G12 9HT
Nope, we don’t do shaves, dye or perm your hair.
No scalp massages either.
Nothing sophisticated here. We simply cut your hair and if you ask we’ll shampoo it and maybe put on some gel if that’s what you want.
That’s all.
We offer a service that seems simple enough. If you don’t want to talk to us, we’ll keep quiet. If you want to chat, we can do that too. However, one way or another, our expert staff will quietly be taking into account the texture of your hair, how it grows and what style suits you best. We’re sure you will be happy with the result and will become a regular visitor to our two Glasgow barber shops.
“The Barber” also known as “Front Room Hairdressing” opened in 7 Stuart Street, Milngavie in November 1991 in the “front room” of what was in years gone by “a room and kitchen with outside toilet” of an old tenement.
“The Barber Too” opened in 189 Hyndland Road in Glasgow’s West End in March 2009.
You’ll love the way our barber shops look.
Traditional barbers with a difference.
They are comfortable and peaceful.
No appointments.
Just walk in.
Nothing simpler.
If we’re busy cutting we won’t be long. Just settle into our sofa and read a paper. Or wander about and look at our paintings.
We stock hair products. You can buy if you want to, but you won’t get any sales talk. After all, most men just want a straightforward gents haircut with no frills attached.
P.S. Oops. Almost forgot. We ARE sophisticated after all. We have an ever changing display of original paintings by significant artists. They are all for sale. We’ll tell you more about the artists later.

Alopecia
There is no need to bury your head in the sand if you develop alopecia or baldness. Help is at hand.
The British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) has a leaflet on Alopecia Areata which can be downloaded.
“What is alopecia areata?
Alopecia is a general term for hair loss. Alopecia areata is a specific, common cause of hair loss that can occur at any age. It usually causes small, coin- sized, round patches of baldness on the scalp, although hair elsewhere such as the beard, eyebrows, eyelashes, body and limbs can be affected. Occasionally it can involve the whole scalp (alopecia totalis) or even the entire body and scalp (alopecia universalis). It is not possible to predict how much hair will be lost. Regrowth of hair in typical alopecia areata is usual over a period of months or sometimes years, but cannot be guaranteed. The hair sometimes regrows white, at least in the first instance. Further hair loss is not uncommon. In alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis, the likelihood of total regrowth is less.”
In addition there are a large number of patient support groups for those with alopecia. “Headzup” is specifically for children with alopecia.

The Necropolis
Posted by admin in GLASGOW, Glasgow Necropolis, HISTORY OF GLASGOW, PHOTOGRAPHS on August 4, 2009

I’ve never visited here because it seemed a bit spooky, but my mother has. She tells me it IS a bit spooky and overgrown, but is also a vast and interesting place. She found where my great, great, great, grandfather and grandmother and some of their children are buried, so maybe some day I’ll go and have a look.
“We have set up this website to be a focus for developing the public’s interest in this fascinating Victorian garden cemetery adjacent to Glasgow Cathedral. We are always looking for new information to add to the site and if you can contribute to the information We are particularly keen to hear from descendants of the ‘incumbents’ that can provide profiles of those buried here.”
GLASGOW NECROPOLIS – MORE INFO
“Welcome to Glasgow Necropolis – ‘the Great Grey Rock’. It will take you approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to follow the Heritage Trail from the Museum, across the Bridge of Sighs, through the Necropolis grounds, across the Grey Rock and back again.”
Head lice and nits
Posted by admin in HAIR AND SCALP CONDITIONS, Head lice and nits on June 25, 2009

“Head lice are common in children, but can affect anyone of any age. They are not a sign of dirty hair or poor hygiene. Close ‘hair to hair’ contact is usually needed to pass lice on. Head lice cannot jump or fly, but walk from one head to another. They soon die when away from hair, and do not live in clothes, bedding, etc. Most head lice infections are caught from family or close friends who are not aware that they have head lice.”

Contact dermatitis
Posted by admin in Contact dermatitis, HAIR AND SCALP CONDITIONS on May 19, 2009

“Successful contact dermatitis treatment consists primarily of identifying what’s causing the inflammation. Then, if you can avoid the offending agent, the rash usually resolves in two to four weeks. Self-care measures, such as wet compresses and anti-itch creams, can help soothe your skin and reduce inflammation.”
